Flooded Tapoban City Despite Reduced Rainfall, Everything from Lifts to Bikes Submerged

**Durgapur:** Despite reduced rainfall, residents of Tapoban City in Kanksa, West Burdwan, have not been spared from waterlogging woes. The entire housing complex has virtually become submerged due to continuous rain. Residents are forced to wade through knee-deep water for their daily commute. Water has entered the lifts, along with bikes, scooters, and cars parked below the complex.

On Saturday morning, such waterlogged conditions were observed in Tapoban City. This complex consists of nearly 70 multi-storey towers. Residents complain that every time it rains, water accumulates in the area for an extended period. This time, due to continuous rainfall, water has reached above knee level in some places, while in others, it has submerged vehicle wheels.

Residents claim that many bikes, scooters, and cars parked under the buildings have been submerged. Even water entering the lifts has caused problems for the residents. They have to wade through knee-deep water even for urgent outings. From children to the elderly, all residents have faced severe hardships.

Residents complain that the same issue recurs every year during the monsoon. They claim that the lack of a permanent drainage system in such a large area leads to flooding with even a little extra rain.

One resident expressed frustration, saying, **“The builder sold the flats and left. Now the problem is for those who bought them. In this situation, it feels like we need to operate a steamer.”**

Another resident, Anup Mitra, along with several others, complained, **“Water has accumulated all around. Many bikes and cars have submerged. We have to commute with knee-deep water. Everyone is facing extreme problems.”**

Although the rain has reduced somewhat, residents fear that if the accumulated water does not drain quickly, the situation could worsen. They have demanded urgent measures for water drainage.
