Ruckus outside Abhishek Banerjee's house on his birthday night! Tension as TMC-BJP clash erupts, MP gets into argument with police

Kolkata: The area in front of the Kalighat residence of Abhishek Banerjee, TMC's all-India general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP, turned volatile on his birthday night amid political clashes. Slogans and counter-slogans, heated exchanges and scuffles between TMC and BJP workers and supporters sparked intense tension. Several people from both sides are reportedly injured.

Just past midnight on Saturday, a large number of TMC workers and supporters gathered in front of his Kalighat home to celebrate his birthday. It is alleged that around 2 am, a group of BJP workers and supporters arrived there and began shouting 'chor chor' slogans. It is also alleged that Abhishek's cutouts, photographs and banners were vandalised and torn down. The incident led to a initial argument between the two sides, which later escalated into physical fights. Several TMC workers and supporters were injured.

Police reached the spot to control the situation. Officials tried to separate the two sides and bring the situation under control. However, tension was not completely defused. It is alleged that BJP workers and supporters gathered again in front of Abhishek Banerjee's house. Slogans of 'cow thief' and 'fish thief' were raised. In response, Abhishek's supporters also began shouting slogans in his name.

BJP workers carried banners bearing a picture of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, while TMC supporters were seen holding photos and cutouts of Abhishek Banerjee. Slogan-shouting continued in the presence of police. As the situation grew increasingly heated, additional police forces and RAF personnel were deployed at the spot.

Abhishek Banerjee expressed strong anger over the incident. After the events of the night, he came out of his house. He was seen sitting in front of his home with workers and supporters from 2 am until dawn. When police requested him to go back inside the house, the MP got into a heated argument with the police. He also expressed anger over the role of the police.

On the other hand, BJP workers and supporters counter-claimed that when they were bringing an idol for Kali Puja, TMC workers started shouting slogans targeting them. This led to an argument and then a physical clash. Both BJP and TMC supporters are reportedly injured in the incident.

The clash on the night of Abhishek Banerjee's birthday in front of his house has triggered fresh political tension in Kolkata. Police are investigating the actual cause of the incident and who was involved.
