Tollywood Director and Actor Wasim Akhtar Arrested for Alleged Financial Fraud of 8 Million Taka
**Maldah:** Tollywood director and actor Wasim Akhtar was arrested by the police of Ratuya police station for alleged financial fraud of nearly 8 million Taka. He was arrested on Sunday night from the Tollygunge area of Kolkata. On Monday, he was presented in the Chanchal sub-divisional court, where a request for 14 days of police custody was made.
According to police sources, Wasim Akhtar is accused of taking nearly 8 million Taka from Md. Azaharuddin, a resident of Ratuya, under the pretense of making a film titled 'Kaliychak Chapter One' in 2022.
It is alleged that Azaharuddin was promised to be the producer of the film. However, he was later removed from that responsibility. Following this, issues arose regarding the financial transactions between the two parties.
In January of this year, Azaharuddin filed a complaint at the Ratuya police station regarding this incident. Since the filing of the complaint, police sources claim that Wasim Akhtar had been absconding.
Finally, after a long search, he was arrested by the Ratuya police from the Tollygunge area of Kolkata on Sunday night. He was then brought to Maldah.
When the accused was presented in the Chanchal sub-divisional court on Monday, the police requested 14 days of custody for the sake of investigation. Police sources have stated that various aspects regarding the veracity of the allegations, financial transactions, and the use of the money taken under the guise of film production are being examined.
The Ratuya police are also investigating whether anyone else is involved in the incident. An investigation into the entire matter has been initiated based on the complaint.
