Ganges Water Levels 45 Centimeters Above Danger Mark, Over 35,000 People Trapped in Manikchak

**Maldah:** A severe flood situation has once again arisen in the vast areas of Manikchak block in Maldah. Particularly, the extensive area of the North Chandipur Gram Panchayat and the centuries-old Bhutni Char on the Ganges is virtually waterlogged. The water level of the Ganges is continuously rising. Agricultural lands and several houses have been submerged. Many areas have been cut off from road communication.

According to local sources, the current water level of the Ganges is flowing about **45 centimeters above the extreme danger mark**. In the meantime, the river embankment has broken in the Kesharpur area of Manikchak, causing water to flood into vast areas. As a result, more than **30 villages**, including Durlabhola, Bhubantola, Kedar Tola, and Maniknagar, are reported to be waterlogged.

Due to the floods, **more than 35,000 people are trapped**. Many have been evacuated to safe shelters. The administration has already opened **seven relief camps**. Efforts are underway by the administration and disaster management teams to rescue the affected and move them to safe locations.

However, the situation has become more alarming as the water level of the Ganges continues to rise. The administration is repeatedly urging residents to move to safe places. But many are still reluctant to leave their homes. If the water level rises further, the situation is expected to worsen.

Some local residents have also expressed anger over the relief efforts during the flood. They complain that adequate relief is not reaching all areas yet. They are facing difficulties in obtaining food, drinking water, and other essential supplies in the affected areas.

To address the situation, two state ministers are currently in Manikchak on the Chief Minister's directive. They are monitoring the flood situation from the area. They are accompanied by the MLA of Manikchak, **Gour Chandra Mandal**. The administration has intensified efforts to rescue the affected and deliver relief.

Overall, with the rising water level of the Ganges, there is a growing concern that the situation in the vast areas of Bhutni and North Chandipur in Manikchak may become even more severe. The administration is trying to quickly relocate the affected to safe places.
