Couple Drowns While Bathing in the Sea at Mandarmani; Boy Dies; Search for Two Missing
**Mandarmani:** A horrific accident occurred in Mandarmani while bathing in the sea. A couple from Nadia district drowned in the turbulent sea. In the same incident, a ten-year-old boy lost his life. The duty-bound fishermen promptly rescued the boy and took him to the local Bararankua hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased boy's name is **Somnath Haldar**. He is approximately 10 years old and a resident of Pratappur village in the Krishnanagar police station area of Nadia.
Meanwhile, **Suman Sill** and **Brishti Sill**, residents of Bagdebipur village in the Shantipur police station area of Nadia, are still missing. It is reported that Suman works in Delhi. His father-in-law works at a hotel in Digha. The couple had planned to return home from Delhi and visit Digha.
It is known that during the sea bathing, the sea suddenly became turbulent. At that time, the boy Somnath lost his balance and floated away. The couple also drowned in the sea in the same manner. As soon as the matter came to light, the duty-bound fishermen quickly entered the sea and rescued the boy. However, despite being taken to the hospital, he could not be saved.
On the other hand, a search has begun for the missing couple. Surveillance is being conducted in the sea and surrounding areas.
The repeated incidents of drowning in the sea have raised concerns along the beach. Measures are being taken to strengthen beach safety to address the situation. The Superintendent of Police of East Medinipur has stated that **90 more fishermen** will be appointed at various beaches in the district, including Mandarmani. Through them, plans are in place to enhance monitoring of tourists during sea bathing and to expedite rescue operations in emergencies.
After the accident, the administration has once again issued a warning to tourists to be cautious while bathing in the sea, especially to avoid entering the water in turbulent seas and areas where prohibitions are in place.
