River Embankment Breach Again in Malda's Bhutni! Ganga Water Flooding In, Several Protected Areas Affected

**Malda:** Panic has spread in Bhutni of Malda's Manikchak due to the river embankment breach. In Kesharpur, multiple spots of the river embankment have broken, allowing Ganga water to rush into several protected areas of the North Chandipur Gram Panchayat. As a result, a flood-like situation has developed in a vast area of Bhutni.

According to local sources, early Thursday morning, a strong current of the Ganga broke approximately **20 meters** of the old ring embankment in the Kesharpur area. Locals claim that this old ring embankment was constructed about a year ago, with an allocation of nearly **16 crore rupees**.

After the old ring embankment broke, attempts were made to contain the Ganga water using a newly constructed ring embankment nearby. However, it is alleged that this embankment also broke under the pressure of the water. Subsequently, Ganga water quickly entered several protected areas of the North Chandipur Gram Panchayat through the broken part of the new ring embankment.

Later, by Thursday night, breaches were observed at several other points of the old ring embankment. Locals claim that the embankment broke at **almost five places** at intervals. Since Friday morning, Ganga water has been continuously entering through the broken parts, worsening the situation further.

Meanwhile, several families in the Kesharpur and Kalutnatola areas have become waterlogged. Locals complain that they are forced to live at the base of the submerged embankment, risking their lives. Residents fear that the situation could become even more severe at any moment.

Families trapped in the water have appealed to the administration for their swift rescue and safe relocation. The new breach has created panic in the vast area of Bhutni. The residents are now looking to see what measures the administration will take to address the situation.
