**Correspondent, Nadia:** A paternal uncle has been arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Shantipur, Nadia. The girl is currently hospitalized with serious injuries. Following the filing of a written complaint after the incident, the police took swift action and apprehended the accused.


**Details of the Incident:**

According to family sources, the girl had gone to her paternal uncle's house on Friday afternoon. It is alleged that at that time, the accused took advantage of the situation, threatened her, and committed the heinous act of rape.


Shortly after the incident, the girl felt severe physical discomfort. Out of fear and shame, the matter was not disclosed initially. Initially, she was taken to the hospital, and it was reported to the doctors that she had fallen from a wall and sustained injuries. Following this, the doctors provided primary treatment and sent her home.


**Doctors' Suspicion and Revelation of the Truth:**

On Friday evening, the girl's physical condition deteriorated severely, and she began to experience excessive bleeding from her genital area. The family rushed her back to the hospital. Observing the nature of the injuries, the attending doctors expressed suspicion.


Subsequently, the doctors spoke privately with the girl. It was then that she revealed the entire ordeal and horrific experience she had undergone. Upon learning this, the family quickly filed a written complaint at the Shantipur police station.


**Police Action and Arrest:**

Within just an hour of the complaint being lodged, the police conducted an operation and arrested the accused paternal uncle.


* **Legal Action:** A case has been registered against the accused under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act.

* **Custody Application:** The arrested individual is being presented in court with a request for 7 days of police custody.

* **Police Statement:** The police administration of Shantipur has stated that there will be no compromise or leniency in sensitive cases like violence against women and children. Action has been taken in accordance with the 'zero tolerance' policy upon receiving the complaint.


The physical condition of the girl, who is currently hospitalized, is being monitored. Meanwhile, the victim's family and local residents are vocally demanding the maximum and exemplary punishment for the accused.
