Accident While Searching for Road Using Google Maps, Biker Falls 30 Feet into Mine
**Pandabeswar:** A biker met with a horrific accident while searching for a road using Google Maps. A person named Prasun Banerjee fell into a nearly 30-foot-deep open mine in the Mahalaxmi mining area of Pandabeswar, sustaining serious injuries along with his bike. He was rescued in an injured condition and admitted to a private hospital in Durgapur.
According to local sources, Prasun Banerjee is a resident of the Basudha area of Kaksar. He works as a cable operator. He was heading to a village in Pandabeswar for cable-related work on Friday night. It is initially reported that he was using Google Maps to find the road.
It is alleged that due to mining operations in the Mahalaxmi mining area of Pandabeswar, several roads have now come under the mining area. In this situation, Prasun was following a paved road as per Google Maps. Suddenly, he fell into a deep pit in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, his family members grew worried when he did not return home until late at night. When they called Prasun, his brother Subrata Banerjee stated that he could not clearly inform them where he was. The family claimed that he mentioned various places over the phone, sometimes referring to the Ajay River, sometimes to Durgapur, making it difficult for them to identify his exact location.
Ultimately, it was reported by family sources that Prasun's location was identified through geo-tagging. On Saturday morning, Prasun and his bike were rescued from a deep pit in the Mahalaxmi mining area of Pandabeswar.
The rescue operation was undertaken by the mining authorities, administrative officials, and local residents. Using a mining excavator, injured Prasun was rescued from the nearly 30-foot-deep pit. He was then quickly taken to a private hospital in Durgapur, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The incident has raised questions about the safety of the roads and open mines in the mining area. There is growing concern among locals about how adequate warning measures and safety are for people traveling through the roads in that area at night.
