Flood in Baranjah due to the swelling of the Kue River and heavy rainfall, Superintendent of Police visits several inundated villages
**Murshidabad:** Flooding has occurred in extensive areas of the Baranjah block in Murshidabad due to the swelling of the Kue River and continuous heavy rainfall. Floodwaters have entered several villages, including Sonabarui, Baidyanathpur, and Tarapur. According to local sources, over a hundred houses have already been inundated. Concern is growing among the local residents regarding the situation.
The agricultural community has suffered the most due to the flood. Nearly **5,706 hectares of agricultural land** have been submerged, causing severe anxiety among farmers regarding the Aman rice cultivation. Many fields with recently planted rice have been submerged. As a result, farmers are fearing losses worth several lakhs of rupees.
To assess the situation, Murshidabad's Superintendent of Police **Sachin Makkar** reached the flood-affected areas. He toured various inundated regions and spoke with local residents to hear their problems. He was accompanied by the president of the Baranjah Panchayat Samiti, **Nazma Khatun**, and other administrative officials.
The daily lives of ordinary people have also been severely disrupted due to the flood. Local residents have demanded immediate relief, food supplies, and necessary government assistance for the waterlogged families. They are also concerned that if the water does not recede quickly, the situation may worsen.
On the other hand, farmers are worried that if water remains on the fields for an extended period, the recently planted Aman rice may get damaged. This could lead to significant financial losses for them in the current season's cultivation. Therefore, there is a demand to quickly assess the damage and bring the affected farmers under government compensation.
Local residents have stated that there needs to be closer monitoring by the administration regarding the water level of the Kue River and rainfall conditions. They have also demanded the swift relocation of waterlogged families to safer areas and the delivery of necessary relief.
Now, the residents of Baranjah are looking to see how quickly the water level recedes and how effectively the administration can control the situation. At the same time, it has become crucial for the affected farmers to receive government aid and compensation as soon as possible.
