Rail services in New Farakka still not normal after 53 hours, repair work ongoing
**Murshidabad:** Even after nearly 53 hours, rail services in New Farakka have not fully normalized. Continuous heavy rainfall caused a severe landslide beneath the up rail line heading to North Bengal near New Farakka station, disrupting rail services. Repair work is currently ongoing at a war-like pace. Due to the situation, several express trains have been canceled. Currently, rail services are being operated somehow on the down line.
The landslide occurred early Thursday morning beneath the up line near New Farakka station. The soil beneath the railway line shifted due to heavy rainfall, creating a dangerous situation. Train operations on the up line were halted immediately after the incident.
Since then, the railway authorities have begun repair work on the landslide. However, due to the depth of the landslide and the condition of the soil, it is taking time to complete the work. Even after nearly 53 hours, complete repairs on the up line have not been possible.
Currently, to prevent the landslide area from expanding further, **piling work** is being done a little away from the track. Additionally, efforts are being made to quickly fill the landslide area with dust-filled bags to repair the up line. Railway workers are working with a war-like urgency.
Meanwhile, the closure of the up line has significantly impacted rail services between North and South Bengal. Several important express trains have been canceled. It has also been reported that the routes and schedules of some trains have been changed.
Currently, trains are being operated in a limited manner using the down line. As a result, passengers are facing increased inconvenience. Especially, passengers traveling between North and South Bengal are encountering problems.
The railway authorities aim to repair the landslide area as quickly as possible to restore train operations on the up line. However, when the complete service will normalize depends on how quickly the repair work is completed.
