Skywalk in Howrah! Get off the bus and catch the train directly, plan for a direct connection to platform 8
**Howrah:** Big news for the residents of Howrah and daily commuters. Eastern Railway is planning to construct a skywalk or foot overbridge (FOB) for a direct connection from Howrah bus stand to Howrah station. Once this connection is established, passengers will be able to get off the bus and directly access the skywalk to reach Howrah station. According to the initial plan, there is also a possibility of extending this connection to platform 8.
The state government has plans to develop the Howrah bus stand as a multi-complex. Once this plan is implemented, a detailed project report or **DPR** will also be prepared by the railways, as stated by Eastern Railway's senior DCM Rahul Ranjan.
According to railway sources, efforts will be made to create a direct connection from the proposed multi-complex bus stand to Howrah station via the skywalk or foot overbridge. This is expected to reduce both time and effort for thousands of passengers commuting from the bus stand to the station.
### Will the skywalk reach platform 8?
According to the initial plan, there is a possibility of extending the proposed skywalk to **platform 8** of Howrah station. However, this is not a final decision yet. The design of the project, the scope of the connection, and other details will be clarified only after the DPR is prepared.
If the plan is implemented, in the future, passengers will be able to get off the bus at the bus stand and directly enter Howrah station via the skywalk. This will make commuting easier from platform 1 to platform 8.
### When will it be operational?
Currently, there is no specific timeline for the construction of the skywalk or when it will be operational for passengers. Initially, the progress of the multi-complex project at Howrah bus stand will be evaluated, and based on that, the process of preparing the railway's DPR will proceed. After that, the final outline and timeline of the project are expected to be determined.
At present, passengers have to use the conventional route to travel from the bus stand to Howrah station. If this skywalk is implemented in the future, it will create a direct link between bus and rail services. This arrangement is expected to be quite convenient, especially for daily office commuters, long-distance travelers, and those carrying heavy luggage.
Now, the focus is on how quickly this project is implemented to modernize and make the transportation system of Howrah city more passenger-friendly.
