Former Goyeshpur Gram Panchayat Head Shyamal Ghosh Arrested for Taking Money in Bengal Housing Scheme and Threatening to Kill

**Nadia, July 22:** Former Goyeshpur Gram Panchayat head Shyamal Ghosh has been arrested shortly after resigning from his position. He was arrested by the police of Shantipur police station based on allegations of taking money under the Bengal Housing Scheme in exchange for providing homes, threatening when the money was demanded back, and instilling fear of death.

The complainant, Nirmal Mondal, who is a person with disabilities, claimed that Shyamal Ghosh took 30,000 rupees from him under the promise of providing a house through the Bengal Housing Scheme. According to the allegations, Shyamal Ghosh himself went to Nirmal Mondal's house to collect the money.

Nirmal Mondal alleged that later, due to a change in the political situation, it became impossible to provide a house through the scheme, so he went to ask for his money back. At that time, he was verbally threatened. Moreover, he alleged that he was threatened with death by showing various types of weapons.

Additionally, according to local residents, Shyamal Ghosh's son, Shobhan Ghosh, also exerted pressure on the complainant. He was threatened not to go to the police station to file a complaint, and it was also claimed that he was threatened with death if he did so.

Based on multiple allegations, Nirmal Mondal filed a written complaint at Shantipur police station on July 20. The police began an investigation into the complaint. Subsequently, on the night of July 22, Shyamal Ghosh was arrested from the Goyeshpur area.

According to police sources, the accused Shobhan Ghosh is currently absconding. A search is being conducted for him. Investigators believe that more information is needed regarding the reasons behind the incident and the role of the absconding accused.

For this reason, Shyamal Ghosh has been presented in the Ranaghat sub-divisional court with a request for seven days of police custody. The police are awaiting the court's order.

The incident has caused widespread excitement in the Goyeshpur area. A section of the locals has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and strict action against the accused.
