CAG report on Amphan corruption to be presented in the Assembly on Saturday, former Chief Minister will not be spared if proven guilty: Suvendu Adhikari
**Kolkata, July 22:** The state government has indicated a significant step in the Amphan corruption case. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced that the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India) report related to Amphan will be presented in the Assembly on July 25. He stated that if evidence of corruption is found in the report, legal action will be taken against the former Chief Minister, ministers, or any influential leaders.
While addressing the Assembly on Wednesday, the Chief Minister alleged that the previous government did not fulfill the constitutional and institutional obligation to present the CAG report in the Assembly and discuss it. He claimed that the report had been withheld for a long time.
Suvendu Adhikari said, “It was mandatory to present the CAG reports in this House and discuss them. The previous government did not do that. The reports will be presented on July 25. A detailed discussion on the reports will take place in the next session, and decisions will be made based on the recommendations therein.”
He further stated that wherever evidence of corruption is found in the report, recommendations will be made to file FIRs against the accused. The Chief Minister also mentioned that a formal recommendation will be sent to the Governor regarding this matter.
In his speech in the Assembly, Suvendu clearly stated, “Whether he is the Chief Minister, a minister, or any big leader, if evidence of corruption is found, we will recommend to the Governor to file an FIR against him.”
This announcement is being considered highly significant in political circles. This is because allegations of widespread irregularities and corruption in the relief and rehabilitation projects after Cyclone Amphan have long been at the center of political debate. The opposition has repeatedly alleged that many ineligible individuals received government benefits instead of the actual victims.
Now, with the release of the CAG report, a government audit-based assessment of those allegations is about to come to light. Political circles and the general public are keenly observing what information the report reveals and what steps the government will take based on it.
