Not Tarakeshwar, Devotees Flock to Shibdangi Temple in Malda! ‘Height of the Shiva Lingam is Increasing’ Belief Draws Crowds to Pour Water in Shravan

**Malda:** The month of Shravan means worship of Mahadev. Devotees from various parts of West Bengal visit Tarakeshwar Dham during this time to perform water offerings. However, the Shibdangi Temple in the Nalagola area of Bamangola block in Malda district also becomes one of the major attractions for devotees during the month of Shravan.

This ancient Shiva temple, located about 65 kilometers from Malda city, is surrounded by a massive banyan tree that is over 500 years old. Locals believe that the ancient Shiva Lingam entwined with the banyan tree is gradually increasing in size. Although devotees gather throughout the year based on this belief, the crowd significantly increases during the month of Shravan.

On the first Monday of the month of Shravan, long lines of devotees can be seen at the Shibdangi Temple from early morning. Thousands of devotees pour water over Mahadev's head and offer prayers. Many come from far and wide to fulfill their vows and pray for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of their families.

On this day, a devotee was seen walking nearly two kilometers to reach the temple to fulfill a vow. Lying on a long iron-spiked plank, his rigorous penance attracted the attention of many people. The devotion and faith of the devotee drew a crowd in the temple courtyard.

The temple committee and various volunteer organizations have made arrangements for drinking water, medical assistance, and maintaining order for the convenience of the devotees. Additionally, a sufficient police force has been deployed by the Bamangola police station to ensure the safety of the devotees.

According to local residents, the Shibdangi Temple is not just a religious place; it is a center of tradition and belief in the area. For many years, devotees have come here to pray for the fulfillment of their wishes. During the month of Shravan, thousands of people gather at this ancient pilgrimage site due to that belief.
