Improvement in Flood Situation in Malda, Water Levels of Fulhar and Koshi Decreasing; Three Gram Panchayats of Bhutnir Still Underwater
**Malda:** After several days of continuous suffering, there are signs of improvement in the flood situation in Malda. The rise in the Ganges has not increased anew, and the water levels of the Fulhar and Koshi rivers have decreased somewhat, bringing relief to the flood-affected areas of the district. However, the northern Chandipur, southern Chandipur, and Hiranandpur areas of Bhutnir in Manikchak are still submerged. As a result, many people are still taking shelter in higher places.
The extensive area of Bhutnir has been flooded for several days due to the rise in the water levels of the Ganges, Fulhar, and Koshi rivers. Thousands of people have been trapped by the water. In response to the situation, the district administration has set up 19 flood centers in the area. Many affected families have taken shelter there.
The army and NDRF are continuously conducting rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. In addition to relocating the affected individuals to safe places, efforts are also underway to deliver necessary aid. The district administration claims that a sufficient amount of relief materials is being distributed. However, it has been reported that some people are expressing discontent regarding the relief.
Meanwhile, compared to the devastating situation caused by floods in Bhutnir over the past two years, the situation has not yet reached that level this year. In previous years, there were multiple incidents of protests regarding the suffering caused by floods. So far, such situations have not been observed this time.
However, the danger is not completely over. The extensive area of Bhutnir is still submerged. According to administration sources, there have been reports of two deaths so far due to the floods.
Both local residents and administrative officials believe that although the water has started to recede, it will take some more time for the situation to return to normal. Many believe that it may take nearly a month for normalcy to return to public life.
In the past few days, the district magistrate of Malda and other administrative officials have visited the area multiple times to assess the flood situation. Additionally, local legislators and MPs have also arrived in the area to stand by the flood-affected people. The administration is continuing rescue and relief efforts while monitoring the situation.
