Skeleton of Missing Railway Employee Found After 3 Years in Chittaranjan Quarters, Causing Sensation
**Chittaranjan:** A sensation erupted in Chittaranjan after the skeleton of a missing railway employee was recovered from a long-abandoned railway quarters. On Monday, September 28, several bones were found in the 11/B quarters on 11th Street of Chittaranjan railway town. The deceased has been identified as Prakash Chandra Raut Ray (59). The police have not yet confirmed whether the recovered skeleton belongs to him.
According to police and family sources, Prakash Chandra Raut Ray lived alone in that quarters. He had been missing since 2021. Despite searching at relatives' homes and placing advertisements in the media, he could not be found. Later, in 2023, a missing diary was filed at the Chittaranjan police station.
Meanwhile, the long-abandoned quarters are being prepared to be handed over to the railway authorities as per regulations. For this reason, on April 26 of this year, members of Prakash's family opened the lock of the quarters and entered. It is known that family members would still visit there as needed.
On Monday, Prakash's nephew Supratim Raut Ray went to remove a bike from the quarters. At that time, he noticed several bones inside the room. The police were informed. It is reported that the skeleton was recovered from the part of the room where prayers were previously held.
Upon receiving the news, Chittaranjan police inspector in charge Sheikh Ismail Ali, Asansol-Durgapur police commissionerate's ACP (Kulti) Javed Hossain, and Salanpur BDO Debanjan Biswas arrived at the scene. A forensic team was also called to the site. The police and forensic experts have initially collected various samples and evidence.
Local residents claim that Prakash, a worker at the Chittaranjan railway factory, was once involved in social work and helped underprivileged children with their education. However, locals also claim that he was under mental stress a few years before his death.
However, questions are being raised about how the bones went unnoticed for so long despite family members visiting the quarters in recent months. The police are investigating whether the skeleton belongs to Prakash Chandra Raut Ray and are also looking into the cause of death.
Investigators are not ruling out any possibilities at this moment, whether it be natural death, suicide, or death due to other reasons. Clear information regarding the actual cause of death will be available only after the forensic report and investigation.
